Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a high-level meeting with Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, as part of ongoing consultations on future cooperation priorities.

The meeting was attended by senior ministers responsible for agriculture, water resources, and local development, reflecting Egypt’s integrated approach to addressing environmental challenges.

During the talks, the Foreign Minister congratulated Dr. Fouad on receiving the Nobel Sustainability Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to climate action and sustainable environmental solutions, and highlighting the international recognition of Egyptian expertise.

Discussions focused on strengthening coordination between Egypt and the Convention, with an emphasis on aligning global efforts with the needs of developing countries, particularly in addressing drought, land degradation, and food security.

The Egyptian side reiterated that drought management and food security remain top national priorities, stressing the importance of securing new and additional funding for developing and African countries to tackle water scarcity and desertification.

The meeting also explored available support mechanisms, including capacity building, technical assistance, and financing tools emerging from the latest Conference of the Parties held in Riyadh.
