Egypt’s national team kicked off their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe, in a thrilling Group B opener held in Morocco.

The match began with an early setback for Egypt, as Zimbabwe took the lead in the 20th minute through Prince Dube, who capitalized on defensive lapses inside the penalty area to beat goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, Egypt went into halftime trailing by a single goal.

After the break, Egypt increased the tempo and intensity, and their efforts paid off in the 63rd minute when Omar Marmoush equalized with a brilliant solo run and a precise finish.

As the match approached its conclusion, Egypt found the winning goal in dramatic fashion. Mohamed Salah sealed the victory in the 90th minute with a composed strike from inside the box.

The win gives Egypt an important three points in Group B, which also features South Africa and Angola, setting the tone for a promising tournament campaign.
